50cc scooters have seen a sudden surge in popularity thanks to the rising fuel prices and the realization that in places where parking is a major obstacle, these small vehicles are easy to maneuver and park! Though not as powerful as their other counterparts with greater horsepower, nevertheless these scooters are adequate to let you cover average distances at a fair speed. There are many brands available now and it is always prudent to make an informed choice before making a committed purchase.
At the top end of the spectrum lies the Vespa LX50. Though it offers a speed of about 39mph, it lets you cover a distance of around 100 miles before needing to refill the tank. This is a boon as the tank is sufficiently large only to hold about 2 ½ gallons of gas only. Available in many colors, the Vespa LX50 assures a smooth ride. The vibrations are kept to a minimum and the size is suitable for anyone.
Amongst the many brands in the high-end category, the Honda Ruckus is also a good buy as it offers an open design, is built tough and has motorcycle looks. It has a V-matic automatic transmission but its choice of colors is limited to two or three only.

The Kymco Super 9 has also made its mark among the many brands of 50cc scooters in the higher price segment. It boasts of a two stroke air-cooled oil injected engine and a sporty look. Though not as easy to maintain as other scooters in the same price range, it does offers stability and is sturdy enough.
As can be seen, 50cc scooters are available in many styles and have become the choice of the price-conscious vehicle-user.
